Red Ribbon Week

OCTOBER 23 - 31, 2024

As we get further into the fall season, we’re excited to announce that Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated from October 23 - 31, 2024 nationally! This important event raises awareness about drug prevention and promotes a healthy, drug-free lifestyle among our students and community.

WHAT IS RED RIBBON WEEK?

Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign that began in 1985 to honor DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena and to promote awareness around the dangers of drug use. It’s a time for us to come together and encourage our children to make healthy choices. This year’s theme is “Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free.”

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

  • Pledge to Be Drug-Free: We encourage all students to take the pledge to live a drug-free life. For more information about the parent and youth pledges, or to sign the pledge, visit Red Ribbon Campaign Pledge.

  • Community Activities: Check out your local community for any special events. Stay tuned for things LYA or our middle and high school student groups, Stand Up Sachems, might be planning!

  • Donate: Whether it’s time, skills, money, or resources, donating to organizations that help promote drug-free lifestyles and alternative activities for our youth.

  • Wear Red Ribbons: LYA and Stand Up Sachems will be distributing red ribbons through out our schools and the community. Be on the look out for ways we’re planning to celebrate!

  • Spread the Word: Help us promote Red Ribbon Week by sharing information with your friends and family. Use social media to show your support by tagging us and using the hashtag #RedRibbonWeek.

WHY RED RIBBON WEEK MATTERS

By participating in Red Ribbon Week, we can help empower our students to make informed choices and cultivate a supportive environment where they feel safe and valued. Together, we can foster a culture of respect and health that extends beyond our school walls.
